Just like they have over 100 times before, the cast of Private Practice gathered for one final table read late last year, and thanks to cast member KaDee Strickland, we have a behind-the-scenes sneak peek at something few fans ever get to see.
Watch her footage (and see the cast joke about their spin-off idea!) below. And if you’ve missed any videos from our series, you can watch those as well:

The hair and makeup trailer at Private Practice became a homebase of sorts for the cast, according to star Kate Walsh. Over six seasons, she says, it has become a “magical”, “sacred place.” Somewhere the actors could go to “be ourselves.”
Thanks to KaDee Strickland, the video below gives an inside look at this laughter-filled center of action, helmed by makeup department head Sergio Lopez-Rivera and hair department head Arlene Chavez:

Late last year, Entertainment Weekly armed Private Practice star KaDee Strickland with a video camera and asked her to film the cast’s final days on set. What she captured will provide the show’s dedicated fans with glimpses at some of the final scenes of the show and candid interviews with cast and crew. Leading up to the show’s series finale on Jan. 22, EW will roll out this footage as part of a special behind-the-scenes series.
Over six seasons, Charlotte and Cooper have been through thick and thin, good times and bad, and everything in between. And this season, they took on one of their greatest challenges yet: the impending arrival of three babies. It hasn’t gone smoothly, but as executive producer Barbie Kligman tells Strickland in today’s behind the scenes video diary, the couple’s ability to handle trying times has been partly why their journey has touched audiences. “There’s something so lovely about their relationship because it’s real,” she says.
Kligman isn’t the only one with nice things to say about CharCoop. Click below to hear Kate Walsh’s thoughts on the couple and see some exclusive rehearsal footage from their dances earlier this season.

In part 1 of KaDee Strickland’s video diary, she chatted with co-star Kate Walsh about Addison’s most memorable delivery, and in part 2 of this series, Strickland turns the camera on young Griffin Gluck, who plays her step-son Mason on the show. (More accurately, Charlotte is Mason’s “mama.”)

Cooper (Paul Adelstein) and Charlotte’s (KaDee Strickland) journey toward baby town is about to hit a snag.
In tonight’s episode, the couple will find themselves battling to keep their triplets from being born prematurely after complications arise — and viewers will get to see it all unfold through the eyes of worried father Cooper. “You kind of get a glimpse at how his head is working through all of this stuff, which is fun and funny. And then some stuff goes on with the pregnancy that gets a little more serious, so the audience is taken along on that ride, too,” previews Adelstein.
And while the Cooper-centric hour will give us a glimpse into the doc’s mind, it’s also a window into the “tensions” between the parents-to-be, says Adelstein. “He’s very excited to be a father to three more children. But he’s concerned for their life because it’s risky to carry multiples, and he’s a little concerned about Charlotte’s reticence, in general, I think,” he says. “He wants to make sure she’s fully on board and at least appreciating the level of commitment this thing is going to take.”

Private Practice‘s current season will be its last.
Creator Shonda Rhimes made the announcement today, saying that the decision to make the 13-episode sixth season the show’s last came after “a lot of discussion and debate.”
Her full statement is below.
“I’m sad to say that Private Practice‘s run will end after episode 613 this season. There was a lot of discussion and debate but, in the end, the guys at the network and the studio and I all decided that Private Practice was reaching its finish line. Creatively, we are all extremely proud of the show and especially proud of this season — which you will all soon discover is a creative renaissance. I can’t wait for you to see it.
It’s heartbreaking to end. Truly. I feel so lucky to write for these characters and tell these stories and I truly feel this show has taught me so much as a writer. And there’s a family here, of crew and cast, people who have bonded over these past five and a half seasons. It’s rare for a show to go for more than 100 episodes and we are incredibly proud to have been such a show. And we’re grateful to all of you for spending time with us for an hour every week for the last 6 years. It’s meant the world.
Thank you.”
Star Kate Walsh had previously made it clear that she would be done with the Grey’s Anatomy spin-off after this season, but told EW last month that she thought the show could go on without her. Additionally, she left the door open for a return to either Grey’s Anatomy or Practice, should the latter continue in her absence. “That’s Shonda’s decision really. I wouldn’t want to do it all of the time but I certainly wouldn’t be opposed to it either especially if a good storyline came up that needed [Addison],” she had said.

It’s October!! Holy muffins. How did that happen?
It’s been a busy couple of weeks on my end. First, there was the Emmys, immediately followed by a series of set visits in Vancouver that sucked the life out of me in the best way possible. Now I’m back in New York, fall is in full swing, new shows are beginning to stick (and others, not so much), and hopefully we’re all enjoying having DVRs full of goodness. I know I am.
So let’s get to it. Remember to be sending me your scoop requests (spoilerroom@ew.com) and follow me on Twitter for witty commentary and TV news. Also, if you’re emailing, take a second to tell me your favorite new show of the fall. This is an informal poll, but I’m really curious what scoop you might be craving in the near future. Time for some dish. Nom. Nom. Nom.
‘FRINGE’: FOUR TEASES FROM THE SET
There’s no place as wonderfully warm and weird as the set of Fringe. A few journos and I had the pleasure of visiting the gang in Vancouver last week, and when I wasn’t handing out EWwy awards, I was gathering some fun little intel for fans of the mind-bending cult fave. (If you haven’t read the post-mortem from Friday, head here.) READ FULL STORY »

Kate Walsh is leaving Oceanside.
The Private Practice star appeared on Bethenny Frankel’s self-titled talk show and confirmed the rumors that have been swirling for weeks — the upcoming sixth season of Private Practice will be her last. “This is my last season for Private Practice, yes,” she told Frankel. “It’s been an incredible journey and an amazing ride…It’s bittersweet. It’s a huge chapter of my life.”
Her statements come shortly after Tim Daly announced on Twitter that he would not be returning for the next season, which will consist of 13 episodes.

When Private Practice fans last saw alternative medicine guru Pete Wilder, he had just returned from jail and reunited with his wife Violet (Amy Brenneman). But though Pete’s storyline still has more than a few loose ends, viewers shouldn’t expect to see them get tied up neatly: According to Tim Daly, the character he plays will not return for the medical drama’s upcoming sixth season.
“Wonderful fans of PPP. Shonda [Rhimes] informed my agent today that Pete wont be returning for season 6,” Daly tweeted late last night. “It was a great 5 yrs. R.I.P. Pete Wilder.”
Daly’s departure comes on the heels of two high-profile exits on a different Rhimes drama – Grey’s Anatomy‘s explosive eighth season finale revealed that both Chyler Leigh and Kim Raver are leaving the show.

‘Private Practice’: Paul Adelstein on ‘really big’ finale cliffhanger. Plus, will Cooper and Charlotte ever have children of their own?
In tonight’s season finale of Private Practice, the Sam-Addison-Jake love triangle will “come to a head big time.” That’s what Paul Adelstein promises.
“There are a couple of cliffhangers — one really big one that had a lot of us gasping at the table read,” he reveals. “And it’s a very emotional episode across the board and definitely wraps some stories up and opens up a lot of new directions.”
And because of the show’s recent renewal, fans will get a chance to see those new story lines take flight. The show’s future was in limbo until Friday, when the network picked it up for another season.
Just a few weeks ago, Private Practice moved to Tuesday, and the move resulted in a ratings decline; though, it has still averaged 8.1 million viewers and a 3.0 rating this season.
Creatively, however, this season has surged, and Adelstein says it has been “really fun” exploring Cooper’s life as a father to son Mason, who the character was only introduced to this season. The end of the season, he adds, will find Cooper, Mason, and Charlotte making their way as a trio. “In the finale, I think you really see them coming through the other side a bit and starting to jell as a family unit,” he says.
