Scott Borchetta to replace Randy Jackson as 'American Idol' mentor

A month ahead of the premiere of American Idol‘s 15th season, Fox has announced who will be filling the big dawg’s shoes as the show’s new competitor mentor.

'American Idol' rumor roundup: Randy Jackson as a mentor, Kanye West as a judge?

When we’re not busy trying to figure out what is going to happen on Breaking Bad, we’re consumed with constant stories about what is going to happen on none other than American Idol. Honestly, if you thought The Real Housewives had drama, you’ve been missing out.

The latest rumor surrounding the evolving cast of the reality singing competition stars a familiar face: Mr. Randy Jackson, who served as a judge on the show for the first 12 seasons before leaving last May.

According to Deadline, music producer Jimmy Iovine is leaving his post as an in-house mentor, a position he’s held for three seasons, and will “likely be replaced” by Jackson. Deadline claims Fox chairman Kevin Reilly had previously mentioned that Jackson “will be back in some capacity.” So maybe Idol hasn’t lost its top dawg after all.

But Jackson isn’t the only name being thrown around the Idol rumor mill: READ FULL STORY

MTV cancels 'America's Best Dance Crew'

MTV is shutting down America’s Best Dance Crew.

Randy Jackson’s long-running competition series is coming to an end on the network. MTV released this statement to EW: “We are grateful to Randy Jackson and Warner Horizon for having brought our audience seven amazing seasons of dance with ABDC, and look forward to more successful and dynamic entertaining collaborations in the future.”

Along with the conclusion of Jersey Shore, at least two major reality shows will finish their runs on MTV this year. At least Jackson still has his gig on Fox’s American Idol, which returns in January with several new judges.

'American Idol' judges: First glamour shot! -- EXCLUSIVE

Now that we know Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj are not (yet) engaged in an epic feud one day after American Idol‘s season 12 judging announcement, feast your eyes on the first official judges portrait — a sea of understated navy topped with a dollop of rainbow sherbet. It is my esteemed privilege to be the first one to ask, What’s your damage, Nicki Minaj’s pants?” Will the living, breathing, rapping cotton candy dispenser insist on corrupting every serene group shot with a “Can you see my no-no?” expression of faux surprise? Stay tuned.

Simon Cowell tweets Randy Jackson 'back on Idol'

Simon Cowell has good news for American Idol fans who don’t want to see the big dawg hit the road. Cowell tweeted that Randy Jackson will stick around the Fox talent show for another season.

“Just heard Randy is back on Idol,” Cowell tweeted to his 3.6 million followers. “Right decision.”

Late last month, news broke that Jackson was expected to leave the judges’ panel and move into a mentor-like role but now it appears he’ll stay put in his chair.  Deadline says that Fox went ahead and exercised the option it already had on Jackson, who has been on Idol since it debuted in 2002.

Fox, for now, is staying mum though it may make an official announcement about the panel later this week. Only Mariah Carey has been announced as a new judge, replacing one of the vacancies left by Jennifer Lopez and Steve Tyler. The other  rumored candidates for the high-profile gigs are Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban.

Cowell’s The X Factor, meanwhile, returns to the network on Wednesday.

Adam Levine: 'Shame on Randy Jackson' for dissing 'The Voice' -- VIDEO

The rivalry between American Idol and The Voice shows no signs of cooling down any time soon. On Friday’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Voice coach Adam Levine took Idol‘s Randy Jackson to task for Jackson’s comments last month during TCA press tour that NBC’s upstart singing competition show is more for “second chance people” than true musical discoveries. “The winner of The Voice, I will remind you,” Jackson added, “was an artist who had a deal at Capitol Records for several years, a failed contract.”

“Shame on Randy Jackson for saying that,” Levine told DeGeneres, herself a former Idol judge. “Because he of anybody should know that if you’re in this business you need second, third, fourth and fifth chances. So we love and embrace having that being part of the show.” Levine, who was joined by fellow The Voice coaches Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton, does credit Jackson for being “a working musician [who’s] had a lot of success,” but he contends Jackson’s comments were “irresponsible.”

Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson officially back for season 11 of 'American Idol'

Get ready for another “beautiful” season of American Idol: Fox confirmed to EW that rocker Steven Tyler and “dawg” Randy Jackson are indeed set to return to the judges’ table for season 11 of the popular Fox reality series. This information was expected (as Tyler signed on for multiple seasons), and is somewhat consistent with Jackson’s claim on Lopez Tonight in May that all three judges would return to Idol. Jennifer Lopez, however, has recently stated she’s “on the fence” regarding her Idol return, thanks in part to her work with her new reality project, Q’Viva.

So let’s congratulate Randy and Steven with two copies of a thesaurus.
