ABC announces return of Barbara Walters' 'Most Fascinating People'

Barbara Walters may no longer be as ever-present on ABC as she once was, but that hasn’t stopped her from returning with a new list of fascinating people. ABC announced today that Walters will return in December with Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2014.

Among those on this year’s list are Chelsea Handler, newly minted Oscar host Neil Patrick Harris, Scarlett Johansson, and Oprah Winfrey. The other six figures, who will also be interviewed on the show, are expected to be announced soon.

The special will air on Dec. 14 at 9 p.m.

Scarlett Johansson takes lead in Sony TV's 'Custom of the Country'

Scarlett Johansson will star in and executive produce Sony Pictures TV’s Custom of the Country, EW has confirmed.

Based on Edith Wharton’s 1913 novel of the same name, the story follows Undine Spragg (Johansson) in her ruthless ascension to New York high society. British playwright-screenwriter Christopher Hampton (Atonement) will adapt the novel for the screen.

The limited, eight-episode period series from Charles Finch’s Pink Sands is looking at a cable run, potentially premium, and is readying to hit the marketplace.

Though Johansson has previously worked in television, Custom of the Country marks her first major television role.

Michelle Obama to appear on 'Jimmy Fallon'

First Lady Michelle Obama will be a guest on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon this Friday, EW has confirmed.

The First Lady is dropping by to celebrate the third anniversary of her Let’s Move! initiative, although talk about her recent hairstyle change (bangs!) also seems likely. The other guest for Friday’s episode is Scarlett Johansson, who coincidentally was an active President Obama supporter during the recent election.

While this will be the first time Obama has sat down with Fallon, it won’t be her first appearance on the program. Last February, she was part of a pre-taped sketch where Fallon came to the White House and challenged the First Lady to a push-up contest and a potato sack race. Perhaps Friday’s show will feature a rematch.

Scarlett Johansson talks about the weather on 'Today' -- VIDEO

Scarlett Johansson’s normal neck of the woods may be Hollywood, but the star must have been looking to try something new when she was in New York City.

The actress stopped by the Today show this morning to promote her new film Hitchcock, but the talk soon turned to the weather. After learning that Al Roker was suffering from laryngitis, Johansson volunteered to take the reins. “I have a lot of experience with weather, yes,” Johansson said when questioned by Matt Lauer if she was ready for the job. “This is my dream come true.”

Later, Johansson joined the co-hosts on the plaza and the consummate performer delivered the weather forecast complete with gestures to a map (even if her locations were a little bit off!) and ended her debut as a weatherwoman with a jazz-hand pose and a kick.
