Jenny McCarthy makes 'View' debut, gets flirty with Donnie Wahlberg: On the scene

If one word could sum up The View‘s 17th season premiere this morning, it might just be the newly Miley Cyrus-approved ‘Twerk.’ Sure, the VMAs were a few weeks ago — but the ladies of the panel had much to catch up on. The gang also had a brand new addition: Jenny McCarthy, looking daytime-ready in a gorgeous, conservative houndstooth dress.

The goofy spirit that has helped McCarthy continue to get work — whether modeling, writing humorous autobiographical books, or starring in her eponymous, now-defunct talk show — was fully on display during her first hour as an official View co-host. As for her controversial (to say the least) opinions about childhood vaccinations? The show is clearly saving that for another day. Today, the program was all about silly McCarthy.

“I said to Jenny, ‘Have fun!'” Sherri Shepherd told EW after the taping. “That’s what Jenny is all about. She’s fearless. I don’t know if Human Resources really knew what they were doing when they hired Jenny McCarthy. I’ve known her for a decade and a half, so I don’t think they know the full impact yet. She’s just warming up!” READ FULL STORY

Highlights of Joy Behar's last show on 'The View' -- VIDEO

After 16 seasons, Joy Behar bid farewell to The View today. The hour-long goodbye episode, taped Thursday, was billed as “This Was Your Life on The View” and was hosted by comic Mario Cantone (Sex and the City). In addition to showing taped messages from stars and choice clips — including Behar buckling Tom Cruise onto the couch, her declining fashion advice from RuPaul, her walking away from Bill O’Reilly, and her getting a foot massage from Matthew McConaughey — producers lined up a slew of surprise in-studio guests.

First up was Regis Philbin, who told the story of how Behar really got on Barbara Walters’ radar. As Behar killed at Milton Berle’s 89th birthday party in 1997, Walters leaned over to Philbin and asked who she was. Former View cohost Meredith Vieira was next, and she described the “faint smell of peppermint and gin” on Behar’s breath when they kissed on the show. Cue the montage of Behar kissing female guests. Then Vieira kissing Behar. Behar kissing Walters. Walters kissing Vieira. Philbin kissing Goldberg and Sherri Shepherd. And Goldberg and Shepherd kissing Behar.

Barbara Walters addresses 'View' rumors: 'The truth is we love Elisabeth'

Whoopi Goldberg began this morning’s The View with the obvious: “It’s been kind of a crazy weekend.”

“People say the times are a-changin’,” she said at the top of the hour, referring to the “story after story” about who would and would not be leaving The View in the wake of Joy Behar’s announcement that she would be exiting the popular panel show.

(Behar, for her part, debuted a list of “Top 10 Reasons for Leaving The View” that Sherri Shepherd and Elisabeth Hasselbeck thought were hi-larious. A sample: “No. 10: ABC won’t let me drink on the air like Hoda and Kathy Lee.”)

Before the gang could get to the day’s “hot topics,” Barbara Walters leaned forward to explain what was really up with the 17-year-old talk show, and to address rumors that Hasselbeck would be following Behar out the door. “There is a particularly false story that keeps getting picked up about Elisabeth’s departure,” she said, referring to rumors that Hasselbeck was being pushed out due to her conservative views.

“The truth is we love Elisabeth,” Walters continued. “I like her personally and she’s just a wonderful person — but beyond that, we value and appreciate her point-of-view … We have no plans for Elisabeth to leave the show.”
