Shirley MacLaine on her 'Glee' guest spot and singing Janis Joplin

Glee has landed yet another legendary guest star, and this time it’s one Shirley MacLaine, who will appear in two episodes this season as June Dolloway, a wealthy socialite and NYADA donor who takes a special interest in Blaine (Darren Criss) when they cross paths.

In anticipation of MacLaine’s Glee debut on April 29 (at 8 p.m. on Fox), the showbiz great chatted with EW about the show’s grueling schedule and how it felt to kick her heels up once again.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: The first question: Are you a big Glee fan? Do you watch the show?
Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t. It’s one of those things. Love the talent of all the kids, love that they can do so much in a week. It’s extraordinary. All my young friends really loved the idea [of me doing the show]. I don’t know why, but they do!

How long has it been since you’ve last dug into this musical side?
Oh come on, I haven’t lifted a leg or sung a note even in the shower. This is not something I’m really accustomed to. So it’s very stimulating… I’m loving it, let’s put it that way. READ FULL STORY

'Glee': Shirley MacLaine to guest

Shirley MacLaine is headed to Ryan Murphy-ville — but, sadly, it’s not American Horror Story.

Instead, the Oscar-winner (who was most recently seen on television strutting around Downton Abbey) will have a multi-episode arc on Glee, EW has confirmed. TVLine, which first reported the news, says she’ll portray a New York socialite intent on turning Blaine (Darren Criss) into a superstar. (I mean, someone has to go up against Rachel for Broadway supremacy…)

Her first episode is slated to air later this month. Glee recently saw its episode order this season cut from 22 to 20, but the show will return for a final, NYC-centric season next year. READ FULL STORY

Season 4 of 'Downton Abbey' will premiere on...

Downton Abbey has an official return date: Season 4 of the period drama will premiere on Jan. 5, 2014. The series will then run for eight straight weeks, until Feb. 23.

Season 3 broke ratings records for PBS, becoming its highest-rated drama in history. Next season will air in Britain in the fall before coming to America, and will include the return of Shirley MacLaine as the moneyed and less-mannered Martha Levinson, as well as several new faces such as Tom Cullen, Joanna David, and Gary Carr (playing the show’s first black character), among others.

Shirley MacLaine to return to 'Downton Abbey' next season, new characters announced

More casting news from the House of Grantham: Shirley MacLaine will be returning to Downton Abbey next season to reprise her role as American matriarch Martha Levinson, Lady Cora’s mother.

MacLaine’s return is one of many recent announcements coming out of the Julian Fellowes series. Yesterday we reported that actress Siobahn Finneran, who plays O’Brien from downstairs, will be exiting the show. And, of course, viewers are well aware by now that Jessica Brown Findlay and Dan Stevens — Sybil and Matthew, respectively — have already made their exits as well.

However, there will also be some new faces at Downton: The AP reports that Tom Cullen, Julian Ovenden, Harriet Walter, Joanna David, Nigel Harman, and Kiri Te Kanawa will all be appearing in the British drama’s upcoming fourth season. The show will feature Cullen as Lord Gillingham, an old pal of the Crawley family; Ovenden will play aristocrat Charles Blake; Walter will portray Lady Shackleton, a friend to the Dowager Countess; David will guest as the Duchess of Yeovil; and Harman will take on the role of a valet named Green. As for opera singer Te Kanawa, she’ll be playing a singing houseguest, though further character details are limited for now.
