Miss 'Downton Abbey'? Try Spain's hit period drama, 'The Time In Between'

While there are dozens of new summer shows on the horizon, there’s still nothing that quite fills the void left in the wake of British imports Downton Abbey and Call the Midwife. Enter The Time In Between, a delicious spy drama chock-full of intrigue, sex, betrayal and politics set against the exotic backdrop of Spain and northern Africa.

Based on the international bestseller El Tiempo Entre Costuras by María Dueñas, the 11-episode miniseries tells the story of Sira Quiroga, a poor young seamstress from Madrid who leaves her dependable (if slightly boring) fiancé for rogue salesman (played by hottie Rubén Cortada). They escape together to exotic Morocco; eventually their money runs out, and Sira’s fiancé unceremoniously leaves her to fend for herself and their unborn child. Then, as World War II begins, Sira returns to her native Spain to sew haute couture clothing for the wives of Nazi operatives — and in the process, becomes an undercover spy for the British Secret Service.

Check out this exclusive clip from the first episode of The Time In Between, which features the moment sweet Sira meets Ramiro. With one gaze into his deep green eyes, Sira is smitten — and you might just be too. (Matthew Crawley, who?) Subtitled episodes of The Time In Between will be available on DramaFever and on Hulu’s DramaFever channel July 4. READ FULL STORY

Spanish 'Breaking Bad' remake 'Metastasis' vs. the original: What's new? PHOTOS

The bad news is you’re suffering from Breaking Bad withdrawal. The good news? Fans of the hit AMC show — which wrapped up its five-season run in a gripping finale last fall — can look forward to an upcoming Spanish language remake that has plenty in common with Vince Gilligan’s Emmy-winning drama.

Or will it? Sure, true to the original, Walter Blanco — his last name means “white” — is a timid chemistry teacher who transforms into a meth-dealing mastermind after he’s diagnosed with lung cancer. But there are also a few notable differences too, which make Metástasis a blend of high-stakes telenovela drama and American cable TV storytelling. (Never fear: Gilligan consulted on the Colombian remake.) Here are a few of the most striking differences — with the promise of a lot more to come when the show premieres in July in the United States on Univision-owned network UniMás.
