Steven Tyler rips new 'Idol' judges; Nicki Minaj calls him racist

A happy American Idol judging family? Dream on.

But according to former American Idol judge Steven Tyler, harmony should be the ideal. Want that peacefulness explained via a sort-of gross birth metaphor? Tyler’s got you covered:

“I know that they’ve got something going on on the judges’ panel, [and] it shouldn’t be that, it should be just the opposite: They should have something going on, which is called ‘camaraderie,’ ” he said in an interview with MTV. “They should have something going on so thick and beautiful that they can lay it over the new talent that’s trying to birth itself. It needs to be birthed, not judged by ‘entertainment’ factors, it needs to be judged by people that [are] honest, true, that have the ‘it’ factor. Not the ‘it’ factor because they can fight. The f— is that all about?”

The rocker goes on to say, “These kids…they’re scared to death; you’re not going to get the best [out of them]. … If it was Bob Dylan, Nicki Minaj would have had him sent to the cornfield! Whereas, if it was Bob Dylan with us, we would have brought the best of him out, as we did with Phillip Phillips. Just saying.” READ FULL STORY

'Britney 2.0': Hear a 'Glee' mashup of 'Crazy' and '(You Drive Me) Crazy'

Yes, those are two different songs. The first is a hard-rocking single from Aerosmith’s 1993 album Get a Grip; the second is a bit of pop fluff by Britney Spears, best known as the theme from the 1999 teen movie Drive Me Crazy. Mashed together and stripped down, they form a low-key super song that sounds just lovely when performed acoustically by Jacob Artist and Melissa Benoist — a.k.a. Jake Puckerman and Marley Rose, two of McKinley High’s newest students.

You could wait to hear their romantic blend on Thursday, when Glee‘s second Britney Spears-themed episode airs… or you could listen to the song now simply by clicking below the jump.

Steven Tyler criticizes 'American Idol': 'Not my cup of tea'

Where was this honesty during Idol‘s last season?

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, former American Idol judge Steven Tyler admitted that life at AI wasn’t always sunshine and Coca-Cola. “It was something to do while the storm blew by, to be honest,” he told the magazine, explaining that he joined the judging panel primarily because of spats with his Aerosmith bandmates. And once on the show, Tyler found that Fox’s reality juggernaut was “not [his] cup of tea.”

Though the rock star said he enjoyed working with fellow ex-judge Jennifer Lopez and taking home a fat paycheck — reportedly $10 million per season — Tyler wasn’t keen on criticizing the series’ fresh-faced contestants. “The show’s about kids and what you do to nurture their talent. They wanted me to take the piss out of the kids and I don’t have that in me,” he told Rolling Stone. “That’s not what I’m about.”

Steven Tyler leaving 'American Idol'

Steven-Tyler

And the next judge to leave American Idol is…

Steven Tyler? Yup, after weeks of rumors that Jennifer Lopez might exit the hit talent show, Fox just announced that the Aerosmith frontman will not return to Idol as a judge for the show’s 12th season.

“After some long … hard … thoughts … I’ve decided it’s time for me to let go of my mistress American Idol before she boils my rabbit,” said Tyler in a statement. “I strayed from my first love, Aerosmith, and I’m back – but instead of begging on my hands and knees, I’ve got two fists in the air and I’m kicking the door open with my band.”

Tyler then promoted his upcoming album, and added, “Idol was over-the-top fun, and I loved every minute of it…Now it’s time to bring rock back.” READ FULL STORY
