'The Closer' series finale: A peek at the show's farewell and the team's future -- EXCLUSIVE CLIP

The Closer may be saying goodbye tonight — but thankfully most of the team isn’t.

In the show’s series finale, Kyra Sedgwick’s Lt. Brenda Leigh Johnson is reflecting on her life — personally and professionally — and on the verge of making a major decision. “We recognize the chief is — not unstable — but acting distracted and drifting away during conversation. She has a lot on her mind,” says Closer actor Tony Dennison, who plays Det. Flynn, a character who will cross over to the spin-off Major Crimes.

And Brenda’s emotional issues, one can assume, lead to her decision to relinquish her duties at the station. But there are no hard feelings, says Denison. “We understand why she has to go. It’s not like, ‘Can’t you stay?'” he says. “We send her off with love.”

Enter Major Crimes, a show that centers on Mary McDonnell’s Capt. Raydor and features most of the Merry Men Brenda leaves behind, to fill the void. “It’s like the band played on,” Denison says of the first episode.

That band, however, seems a little out of tune in the exclusive clip from the series finale below. In last week’s episode, the station’s internal leak was revealed to be Sgt. David Gabriel’s girlfriend, and immediately, trust issues began to arise. “My character is a little uneasy having Gabriel around there,” he shares. But can the team patch things up before their fearless leader takes her bow? Or will we enter Major Crimes with some major drama still afoot? Make your guesses below. And for more on Major Crimes, check out the second clip after this exclusive peek at The Closer‘s series finale.

'The Closer' final season: Kyra Sedgwick and creator James Duff on the last six episodes

The final six episodes of TNT’s The Closer will push Det. Brenda Leigh Johnson (Kyra Sedgwick) to the limit professionally and personally. And when creator James Duff and star Sedgwick hopped on the phone for conversations with EW about the end of the series, neither could think of a better way to say farewell to a character whose strength has taken center stage for almost seven seasons.

As the final six episodes kick off tonight on TNT, we take a look at what’s in store and look ahead to the show’s spin-off, Major Crimes, which will follow Capt. Raydor (Mary McDonnell) and several members of Johnson’s existing team (who, Duff says, are “within blocks of each other, if not floors”). But the big question? Will Sedgwick ever make an appearance on Major Crimes? “There’s definitely a chance,” says the actress. “We’ll see.”

'The Closer' scoop: 'Law & Order' vet to play Provenza's ex

A Law & Order actress will join The Closer to play Lt. Provenza’s caring — yet crazy — first wife.

EW has learned that Deidre O’Connell will sign on as Liz, the mother of Provenza’s (G.W. Bailey) three children who apparently gets ripped off pawning some personal items in an attempt to pay for her beloved dog’s veterinary care. She’s an English teacher with a soft heart but who is always corrects everyone’s grammar. Irritating! READ FULL STORY

'The Closer' scoop: 'Sunset Beach' alum Jason George to guest star in winter finale -- EXCLUSIVE

TNT’s The Closer continues to book new faces for its final season. EW has exclusively learned that Sunset Beach and Eve alum Jason George will guest star in the show’s winter finale, which is slated to air Dec. 26. This comes shortly after the news that Fred Willard will appear in the show’s 100th episode on Dec. 5, and Elizabeth Perkins made a deal to guest star in the show’s Dec. 19 episode.

George will play Marvin Evans, a successful businessman with old ties to the neighborhood where Turell Baylor was brutally murdered last season, in the episode titled “Silent Partner.” Brenda (Kyra Sedgwick) goes to Evans seeking help to solve a gang murder that may be connected to Turell’s demise. The Closer‘s winter finale is Dec. 26, but the show won’t officially wrap up until the summer of 2012. Major Crimes, a potential spin-off of the series — coming out of those summer episodes — is still a possibility.

In addition to his regular spots on Beach and Eve, George has appeared in several ABC series, everything from Eli Stone and Off the Map to Grey’s Anatomy and Desperate Housewives.

Elizabeth Perkins to star on 'The Closer' -- EXCLUSIVE

Celia Hodes from Weeds is coming to TNT’s The Closer!

EW has learned exclusively that Elizabeth Perkins — best known for her terrific run on the Showtime drama — will guest star as the wife of the LAPD Police Commissioner in an episode airing Dec. 19. Perkins’ character, Gail Meyers, gets into some serious trouble when she tries to cover up a potential scandal.

Gail’s husband is played by the great Mark Moses, better known as Paul Young from Desperate Housewives. And look who else is joining the star-studded episode titled “Road Block”– Curb Your Enthusiasm’s Maggie Wheeler, who will play Gail’s friend who is interrogated by Brenda (Kyra Sedgwick). Nice.

The Closer begins its winter run on Nov. 28.

Fred Willard to star in 100th episode of 'The Closer' -- EXCLUSIVE

Fred-WillardImage Credit: Michael Buckner/Getty ImagesFred Willard will help Kyra Sedgwick and Co. celebrate a very special milestone of The Closer. EW has learned exclusively that the funny man from the Christopher Guest flicks will play “Santa Jack” in the 100th episode.

Yep, the veteran actor from Best in Show (as well as numerous sitcoms like Back to You and Everybody Loves Raymond) will play St. Nick. In the episode, Willard will depict the owner of a Christmas Village where a serious casualty occurs on a zip line. TNT’s official take: “Fighting elves and competing St. Nicks argue over the true meaning of Christmas while Brenda (Sedgwick) reminds people they have the right to remain jolly.” Nice!

Meanwhile, Willard’s character has delusions that he’s the real Father Christmas. Sounds like perfect casting for Willard, last seen making a cameo on TNT’s Franklin and Bash.

His episode will air Dec. 5.

'Fringe,' 'Sons of Anarchy,' 'Castle,' 'Community': Find out what's next in the Spoiler Room

Did you know the first 100 words of this column are the last 100 words I write every week? I say this for two reasons: 1) If you’ve ever noticed the coherency of this column increases as you work your way through it, you now know why. 2) You now also have an incentive to click to the second page of this column. (Yes! I’m paginated now! << I don’t know if that statement is the “Spoiler Room” speaking or yours truly. I’m going to say it’s the “room” since I, in fact, am not paginated.)

At any rate, take note of the little number “2” because it’s your path 2 more scoop. (See what I did there.) Hey, I warned you just one paragraph ago…

Remember to send scoop requests to spoilerroom@ew.com (note to the two smooshed “r”s) and follow me on Twitter for more things that don’t make a lot of sense and a few things that do (like TV scoop!). @EWSandraG READ FULL STORY

'House,' 'Glee,' 'Leverage,' 'Royal Pains': Find out what's next in the Spoiler Room

It’s hot in New York right now. Not awful… but getting there. And we’re gearing up for the bulk of it, readers. So send in your scoop requests to spoilerroom@ew.com (that’s two r’s) or Tweet them to me @EWSandraG. ‘HOUSE': CHASE AND THIRTEEN: IS IT ON?

There’s so much change going on at House, it’s both terrifying and a little exciting. Exciting because there’s no way to predict how the post-Cuddy world will shift this show. One option currently being explored? The advancement of the Thirteen/Chase chemistry we’ve all picked up on. READ FULL STORY

We’re coming up to that point of the year, Roomies, where all the season finales are wrapping up and so is my will to take any more emotional abuse from showrunners. Kidding – and also not. Nonetheless, when the last major finales wrap up, it’ll be like opening the last present on Christmas Day. You’re satisfied…yet sad.

But fear not. Summer TV brings its bounty not too long after and we should rejoice in that. So please send your questions to me. AND if you have any burning questions/general comments about any season finales, send those in, too. We’ll track down some answers, yeah?
