'Vampire Diaries' season 4 premiere photos: Drama? Yes. Shirt? Optional.

The CW has released new photos from The Vampire Diaries’ Oct. 11 season 4 premiere. Here are 10 of our favorites. (There were none of Damon, sorry.)

From this smile on Michael Trevino’s face, we assume this is what EP Julie Plec meant when she told EW Klaus will enjoy some ”PG-13 fun” with Caroline as Tyler before returning to his own body. (“Nothing that’s gonna get the support groups up in arms,” she promised, with a laugh. For the record, we’re very okay with this.)

Fall TV Preview: 'Vampire Diaries' EP Julie Plec, Nina Dobrev talk graduation

Vampire Diaries fans have already heard that season 4 may very well end with Elena (Nina Dobrev) graduating from high school. But here’s why: “Paul Wesley looked at me this year, and he’s like, ‘I don’t have to go back to high school, do I?’” exec producer Julie Plec tells EW with a laugh. “I said, ‘Yeah, you do. You’re in high school.’ He goes, ‘That’s ridiculous.’ I’m like, ‘You’re in high school. If you don’t go to high school, what’s the point?’ ‘I look so ridiculous. We all look so ridiculous. We’re 100 years old, we shouldn’t be in high school.’ I said, ‘Well, there’s one more year to go, so suck it up.’” READ FULL STORY

'Vampire Diaries' season 4 promo: Elena in transition, Klaus still in Tyler? -- VIDEO

vampire-diaries.jpg

A new promo for The Vampire Diaries, which returns Oct. 11, shows Elena (EWwy nominee Nina Dobrev) in transition, Bonnie (Kat Graham) trying to save her from becoming a vampire (she has to feed on human blood or die), and Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) fighting as usual. Watch it below. We also see Caroline (Candice Accola) getting frisky with Tyler (Michael Trevino), who, we presume, is actually Klaus (Joseph Morgan) still in Tyler’s body. Though TVD exec producer Julie Plec has promised we’ll see Morgan on our TV screens quickly, she’s also told EW that Klaus will have some ”PG-13 fun” with Caroline as Tyler. “Nothing that’s gonna get the support groups all up in arms,” Plec promised, with a laugh. “What’s fun about that relationship moving forward is that Caroline is as committed as ever to Tyler, and Klaus kinda commits himself to this crush on Caroline for the long haul and starts to have a little bit of fun with it: How many different ways can I screw up her relationship with her one true love?” READ FULL STORY

'Vampire Diaries' releases season 3 blooper reel -- VIDEO

The blooper reel for The Vampire Diaries‘ third season features plenty of sex jokes, along with evidence that Ian Somerhalder — though he’s good at many things — is not so good at playing catch. Watch it below and enjoy. The show returns for a fourth season on Oct. 11, but TVD fans only have to wait until Sept. 11 for the season 3 Blu-ray/DVD to hit stores. Check out a sneak peek below! 'Vampire Diaries' scoop: Another Mystic Falls death?

told a lot of details about a lot of people that in the first episode back we’ll see have created a little bit of a domino effect,” says Plec, who teased a “powerful, surprising death sequence” during the premiere.

As a result, the big question in the first episode is not whether Elena will feed on blood, but rather how she does it, when she does it, and whether she’ll even survive the day.

Of course, it shouldn’t be too difficult for her to make it through. After all, she’s got two very able Salvatore brothers by her side. Both Stefan and Damon will help school Elena in vampology 101 this season…though they won’t exactly be on the same page. “They’re two very different kinds of vampires and they’re going to have two very different points of view about what kind of vampire Elena should be,” says Plec. “It’s going to make them fight a little.” READ FULL STORY

'Vampire Diaries' scoop: Meet the Mystic Falls new girl

There’s a new girl coming to Mystic Falls.

Nine Lives of Chloe King actress Grace Phipps has landed the recurring role of 16-year-old April, described as “a natural beauty with a bit of an edge.” April has just returned from private school after the death of her father. She has some history with Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) and Elena (Nina Dobrev), and Elena hopes to protect her from the many secrets the town holds. April will make her first appearance in the second episode next season. I wonder if she has any connection to the big bad vampire hunter that’s coming this season?

Phipps has some vampire experience — she was in the recent big-screen remake of Fright Night. While doing press for the film she expressed her love for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but knocked the Twilight saga (“I like my monsters to be monsters,” she said). The CW’s top-rated Vampire Diaries returns Oct. 11.

'The Vampire Diaries' at Comic-Con: Cast on Elena as a vampire and 'True Blood' rivalry

There will be some big changes in Mystic Falls when The Vampire Diaries returns, since Elena was changed at the end of last season.

During an interview with EW’s Tim Stack at Comic-Con, Nina Dobrev explained that “we don’t know” what kind of vampire Elena will be.

But Ian Somherhalder ventured a guess. “Damon and Stefan have been known to be extremely volatile,” he said. “By virtue of the fact that Elena is such a solid human being, even though she’s sort of this beacon of light, and shepherd through the valley of darkness for other people — who’s to say that she’s going to be this way when she becomes a vampire.”

Plus how do they feel about that other vampire show — True Blood? Watch the full Comic-Con chat below to find out.

With Comic-Con less than one week away, it’s time to let our geek flag fly. Jessica Shaw and I invited Jeff Jensen and Darren Franich into the studio for our first ever Entertainment Weekly podcast crossover episode! (It’s just like that time the beauties of Charlie’s Angels went on The Love Boat looking for a stolen statue, only with significantly less Lido deck.) What TV show panels are we most looking forward to out in San Diego? Which panels can’t help but deliver a healthy dose of awkward (Community with no Dan Harmon)? And why am I the only one excited about the upcoming Shazam! extravaganza?

In addition, Darren explains why he worries about Game of Thrones not sending its heavy hitters, Jeff drops some intel about the highly anticipated Firefly reunion he is moderating, and Jessica rolls her eyes over all the incredibly nerdy things being discussed in her presence. READ FULL STORY

Daniel Gillies on his new drama 'Saving Hope' and returning to 'The Vampire Diaries'

He might portray an undead Original on The Vampire Diaries, but for his new NBC medical drama Saving Hope (premiering tonight at 9 p.m. ET), Daniel Gillies is trading in the stakes for a scalpel.

The hour-long series centers around Charlie Harris (Michael Shanks), a top surgeon who gets caught in the grey area between life and death after an accident leaves him comatose. While he’s busy exploring his hospital in “spirit form,” his fiance/fellow doc Alex Reid (Erica Durance) works on waking him up. She’s aided by new star surgeon Joel Goran (Gillies), who’s got more than friendly feelings for her.

“There’s an enormous conflict at the center of this,” says Gillies, who described his character as someone with a tremendous professional ego. “He’s walked into a situation with a woman that he’s probably in love with.” READ FULL STORY
