'Zombieland' pilot dead at Amazon, fans 'hated it out of existence'

It’s a sad day in Zombieland-land: Franchise creator Rhett Reese — who co-wrote both the 2009 movie and the Amazon pilot that that movie has become with Paul Wernick — tweeted that the series “will not be moving forward on Amazon. Sad for everyone involved.”

The pilot has been available online for a month. Our Chris Nashawaty said, “There are a few yuks and also a pleasantly high body count. [But] the actors feel like bargain-basement knockoffs of Harrelson, et al. … You feel like you’re watching a smudged Xerox of what was a pretty hilarious movie.”

Amazon Studios unveils its 14 pilots online, wants user feedback to determine which go to series

Amazon Studios’ inaugural slate of 14 pilots are now available at Amazon Instant Video, through any Amazon Instant Video app and at amazonoriginals.com. All of the pilots can be accessed for free, and customer feedback provided after each pilot is viewed will help determine which shows Amazon Studios will order to series.

Among the prospective shows are eight adult comedies and six children’s programs. Amazon’s comedy roster, in particular, is packed with stars. Alpha House stars John Goodman and Mark Consuelos with an appearance by Bill Murray, the musical Browsers features Tony-winner Bebe Neuwirth, and Jeffrey Tambor is part of the Onion News Empire ensemble. First Look: See the zombies invading Amazon's new 'Zombieland' pilot

You already got a glimpse at the apocalyptic survivors in Amazon’s new Zombieland pilot, now we’ve got your first look at the zombies out to get them.

In the still above, Columbus (Tyler Ross) and Wichita (Maiara Walsh) try to avoid getting eaten by a zombiefied old lady. She’s one of many un-dead attackers they’ll encounter in the pilot.

“You will see plenty of violence and blood and gore like you did in the movie,” says Paul Wernick, who, along with co-writer Rhett Reese, penned the film and now pilot. “People can expect a lot of zombie attacks in Zombieland for sure.” READ FULL STORY

Amazon's 'Zombieland' pilot, now with promo images: 'A new dead is dawning'

That news you first heard about Amazon reviving Zombieland with a pilot? It’s coming back to life a little quicker than you expected.

The website released two images for the series, which will continue the adventures of our intrepid apocalypse survivors, now played by Kirk Ward, Tyler Ross, Maiara Walsh, and Izabela Vidovic. We don’t learn much from either, except that things are basically as we left them back in 2009: cities still burning, undead still roving, and guns still loaded. It’s not not nothing, right?

Zombieland will premiere alongside Amazon’s dozen other projects, after which customers will be invited to review each one and help determine what goes to series. Take a look at the poster, and a photo of the foursome, after the jump

Amazon orders 'Zombieland' pilot

Amazon is adding a pilot based on 2009’s hit action-adventure-rom-com Zombieland to its slate of original programming. The film’s writers, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, are writing the pilot; producer Gavin Polone is also returning. Filling in the roles of Woody Harrelson et al. are Kirk Ward, Tyler Ross, Maiara Walsh, and Izabela Vidovic. A statement from Amazon says that the show will follow in the same storytelling footsteps of the film, “and finds four survivors outwitting zombies and searching for a place to call home.” READ FULL STORY
